Re: CXLV.22. lizard-fed, or not

The poem conveys a sadness----like others said it is philosophical but not just a thought----it is a feeling too. We are often conscious of time---time past, time passing. When you are young you do dream of the future. When you are old you don't want the future----usually. The images of cat and liza...

Re: LXIV-27 Records

Maryland, except for last weekend, has had a chilly spring so far but nothing like you have in Minnesota. I guess the weather even tires the patience of a native. Yo have experienced your share of cold and snow but these April records are insulting when all you want is a little spring. I hope the we...

Re: LXXXVI-19 Sacking Winter Habits

You do make the winter days and evenings sound hospitable----and they are for having a nice cocoon and reading. But I think you have much to look forward to: my habits shifting once again to those much loved after dinner walks catching fresh evening air in a light jacket for now, shirt sleeves in an...

Wayne, I grant that the poem is exaggeration but in the last couple of days I have found that the reason for the support of Trump and the terrible faux-conservative values is resentment. There is no arguing with it.

Re: XLV--8 A Snail's Life

I like numerous things about this poem---which, by the way, is delightful throughout This is a good life, though morality has some place to govern in human life but it isn't a question of morality in this poem---at least not in these lines---they consider a life of pure sensation a purely sensual li...

Re: LXXXVI-18 Greening to Spring's Song

So good to have the hopeful poems of spring, the resilience after winter. I caress her sides, feel the smooth texture of branches too new to know the rough bearing built up year after year, and I smile knowing this alone speaks of resilience, my young tree biding its time, on the cusp of when new bu...

Re: CXLV.21. reflecting

I laughed at the conclusion of the poem---maybe that isn't polite because a San Antonio summer is hot and only teases rain. But that misery is balanced by ..............this spring, almost makes worth even the misery coming… However, the poem is not just that consoling thought but the reality of the...

I agree with this. Perfectly reasoned argument. Good reflective poem. However, nobody listens to reasonable and truthful poetry---at least nobody that matters---no, just us poets and idealists.

True---true---true. Sad state of our times. There is no real present---no there there. I like this. You can never really figure out inscrutable Mother Nature's motives. You did present the possibilities.

In her own way, perhaps, she's doing us a favor--
ordering a heavy rain to purify the air.
Or she's just a spoil sport, a Puritan afraid of fun.
