Poetry & Poets in Rags of January 3

Postby rus bowden » Tue Jan 03, 2012 8:24 pm

Dear Poetry Aficionados,

Poetry & Poets in Rags blog

Happy New Year! It's the 3rd, so the 1st and 2nd have past. But this week's news in poetry is a lot about who and which are firsts, and seconds. Wasn't Ben Johnson second to William Shakespeare, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge second to William Wordsworth? Can we safely say that Antoine Ó Raifteirí is the best there ever was? Is Elizabeth Bishop the best American poet of the last century? Speaking of which, which poems belong in The Penguin Anthology of 20th Century American Poetry? (and don't be racist with your choices.) And which poems and collections are the best of 2011? Wait, back to that Penguin anthology, let's begin there, with Rita Dove speaking about how the book can be used.

Lots of poems and articles about poets and poetry this week as every week. Thanks for clicking in.
