Babe Ruth

Sailor boy in dress whites strolls
with his new leathered friend.
Leather boy’s right hand on Sailor’s left cheek.
A pint of Jack in his left hand
and a roach hangs from his thick lips.

Halfway down the block they turn down the alley.
Sailor boy leans against the brick wall
Leather boy drops to his knees, begins to unbutton
those bellbottoms.

Sailor boy is at half-mast
when he feels sharp cold steel
where he expected a warm soft hand.

Give me your money Sailor
and you can keep Willy.

The sailor’s heel strikes the wall
he hands his money over.
Leather boy stands, holding his blade.
Unzips his fly, here’s your candy bar baby.
