LXXVIII-12 Found Locally on the Internet

Postby hawkseye » Sat Aug 12, 2017 9:54 pm

Found Locally on the Internet

A simple item, felt pads,
self-sticking, small squares
in shape, useful
for kitchen chairs
setting on a wood floor.

Purchased with ease
two years in the past,
located additional packages
at many stores
when replacements needed.

Not now. Only circles, strips,
large squares and packages
containing assorted sizes
of all but the perfect-sized
squares for my chairs.

What gives?

Undeterred, I turn
to a modern resource,
accessible without spewing
auto exhaust on trips
from store to store—

The Internet

No matter my needs
I find a source,
with Amazon leading
the way for almost
every item,
in price, availability,
and speed of delivery.

Heck—I could get the item
today, if I cared to pay
the shipping fee.

Today’s search, however,
directed me to a store
one town over
with stock on hand.

I ordered and paid online,
drove to the store,
walked to customer service,
received the item
and then headed for home.

If only I’d started the day
searching this way,
saved the environment
from all that driving around.

As a person who avoids shopping like, well, the plague that it is, I look forward to a future like the one you describe here.

this makes all kind of sense, but i can' get used to it. i use amazon to by books for my kindle, always forget there are other things there.

it would be particularly appropriate for me, since i don't shop, i buy. like you i know what i want then go find it and buy it. never think how, as you point out, it makes sense to start looking at amazon or other on line vendors before, especially in the summer, leaving home in a store by store search.

but then i like to feel things before i buy them.

Local stores are hard-pressed to keep up with Internet sales. The smart ones will spend time on either excellent customer service or their own Internet sales of their "niche" items.
