XL--20 Waiting for the Cable Guy

Postby WayneS » Sat Nov 25, 2017 12:10 pm

Waiting for the Cable Guy

A modern rewrite
of Waiting for Godot
being performed
at my home.

--When is he expected?
--Soon.
--When is soon?
--When he gets here.

Two hours later,
my wife calls from the gym.

--Did the cable guy show up?
--Not yet.
--When?
--Soon.
--Did you call the main number?
--Yes.
--What did they day?
--He'll be here soon.

An hour later,
my wife gets home from the gym.

--Was the cable guy here?
--No.
--Did he call?
--Yes.
--What did he say?
--He'd be here soon.

LOL

Good re-rendering of the situation
perhaps a nice outlet for treading calm when "GGrrrr!" is preferred

Did he ever show up??

I don't get why certain service folks get to own so much power over our days - but they do because we need them, be they plumbers, electricians -- or the cable guy

funny, but i haven't had that experience in quite a while - all our troubleshooters, sometimes troublefixers, give us a two hour window.

the only place i'm having that kind of trouble is at the clinic, the doctor will be with you soon meaning anything from a half hour to two hours. seeing a practice that specializes in old people you'd think they would hurry up before their patients die of old age.

The cable guy finally arrived, almost two hours after thetwo hour window. But he fixed the problem by correcting the previous cable guy's work and credited $20 to our COMCAST bill because he was late. And I got a poem out of it while waiting for him. All in all, a satisfactory conclusion to a frustrating morning.

I recall back in the day before cell-phones and when a phone "hook-up" required a person being at the residence.
The best the phone company would do then is say "Monday". You might be there all day and the installer was sick, but no one would call you because you didn't have a phone. When, at the end of the day, you would go to the phone company, they'd tell you, "Sorry, about that, we can reschedule for "Wednesday". "Be sure someone 18 or older is there to admit the installer."

Your poem brings that to mind. Lately, around here, they give us a two-hour window.

Bill
