XL--22 To Write or Not to Write

To Write or Not to Write

There must have been days
when The Bard, himself,
woke, and said,
“To helleth with this writing crap,
I feel it not in my loins
to pen a poem today.
Blast it all!
Why didn't I farm or sell horses
for a living?”

(A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!
What great advertising copy
Will could have created.)

But, no, The Bard
felt obliged to fulfill his destiny,
take quill in hand
and produce sonnets and plays
remaining alive 400 years later.

Which is admirable,
but it's a beautiful sunny day
and I'm not likely to produce
a sonnet that will be read
in the year 2417,
or tomorrow for that matter,
so I'm going to puteth down
my metaphoric quill
and taketh a walk.

Ah, the slings and arrows of outrageousness
makes us think, then write about the fuss
Ah, poor Wayne, he wrote well
but for today he's walking, swell
I posted something, shorter than his
so Shakespeare or not, it is what it is

Enjoy the walk

Bill

glad you didn't put down your quill so quickly, left enough time to get this off.

in the best tradition of shakespeare who shot his bolt and took the rest of the day off.

First, to quote Bill

Ah, the slings and arrows of outrageousness
makes us think, then write about the fuss

settles perspective on your poem and conundrum, Wayne.

I enjoyed the song, the measured weighing of "to write or not to write"
so that by the end of the first stanza I felt less alone in my own angst (some days) wondering if - surely - there must be a good life in just hanging out, taking walks, reading...

But with every change comes its own set of obligations that compel response...

so I'm going to puteth down
my metaphoric quill
and taketh a walk.

tis best -- no doubt!
