Holiday Shopping
I remember years
now long gone
when holiday shopping
involved collections
of catalogs sent
by mail
stacked on the table
scoured for ideas,
items marked,
pages folded
long lists created
with headings:
for Mom, Dad,
kids, sister, brother,
friends
followed by road trips,
in search of elusive
items, tramping
store to store
town after town.
Today, I let my fingers
journey through pages
of Amazon items,
visited Target, Etsy,
and many other sites
with only my eyes
growing tired.
Something’s lost
in the translation
for me, the exhaustion,
frustration and thrill
once experienced
now dampened
by this home-bound
experience.
By comparison, I tried
going to the stores
over recent days.
Didn’t find anything
I wanted, but enjoyed
the now-odd experience
of wandering through shops.
Then I came home
turned on the computer
pulled up my lists
and started shopping.

Re: LXXXII-4 Holiday Shopping
I'm happy to say I don't shop at all. We now just ask our daughter-in-law what the grandkids want, give her our credit card and she uses her Amzaon Prime to buy it. Everybody's happy. It beats the junked toys and books we used to buy.

Re: LXXXII-4 Holiday Shopping
I did some holiday shopping from my computer at home yesterday. Stuff my wife wanted purchased. Nothing particular to me desires, but I can run the computer better than she can and she lets me move through the Amazon website.
