CXXXVIII.08. sorry, birds

Postby allenitz » Mon Dec 04, 2017 8:50 am

in Pecos, averaging
more than one a day, little ones,
they say, the ones who cause
the earthquakes in Pecos,
shale drillers, ejecting their waste water deep
into the earth’s crust, no big deal, they
say from their Houston office towers,
they who have never been wakened from their sleep
by shaking beds, breaking glass, and cracks
in their walls, but they do spend
the large fortunes they make from someone else’s
little earthquakes…

luckily, the state, is also massively invested
in wind power, windmills turning slow and stately
across the plains,
atop the mesas, along the coast's
breaking surf...

kill an occasional low flying birds, it’s true,
but never
caused an earthquake…

sorry, birds,
but you just need to look where you’re going
while us down below
clean air and
our non-trembling sleep new poems and new poets every week

Then we have states like Wyoming which is trying to ban non-fossil fuel energy generation in the state.
Oil companies own the legislature.

Good reminder that creating "little earthquakes" doesn't have to happen. There are better ways to generate power.

Seems there are always winners and losers -- weigh the two sides -- sorry birds -- it's the main reason I oppose huge wind farms marching across the earth, the other being that they are unsightly in many ways. Solar makes a lot of sense to me -- solar farms work -- and solar can be kept local, too -- arrays on schools, homes, businesses...

but the earthquakes from fracking and the wasteful use of water and the fact that there are better ways to power our needs

like too much else, this poem resonates with me about the greed of those who seem to not suffer any consequences from their actions
