CXXXVIII.11. no surprises desired or accepted

I realized this morning
that my habit is to never read
the last page of the newspaper
which comes after the last page
of the comics, a reflection
probably of my stop-while-you’re-ahead
philosophy of living a more mindful life
in my later years…

that kind of ambition, curiosity, and
wonder at the possibilities
of the future in my past, put aside
for the reality of my more mundane
injection and medication
regimen

each day is the day I have,
I think, and
I’ll deal with it tomorrow
when it gets here
if and when it gets here

no surprises desired
or accepted…

There is something to be said for that idea.

Good one.

each day is the day I have,
I think, and
I’ll deal with it tomorrow
when it gets here
if and when it gets here

no surprises desired
or accepted…

I second Bill's comment. This is a good way to live. As one of my doctors said when Vickie asked a "What if"question, "don't borrow worry."

A mindful presentation here, Allen, and adding to it Wayne's "don't borrow worry" -- good reminder to assess how I am handling this day. I aim for mindful, living in the present -- but too easy for future uncertainty to slip in "as if" it were a certainty to soon be confronted -- Instead:

each day is the day I have,
I think, and
I’ll deal with it tomorrow
when it gets here
if and when it gets here

no surprises desired
or accepted…

good poem for the season, for the turmoil in many locations
