Evening Curtain

Postby sonoranpoet » Mon Oct 17, 2011 7:07 pm

dusk falls
settles between
forest and neighborhoods
tossing daylight out on her ear
turn down

the next person to write selects New Topic and starts their cinq with
turn down

The cinqs use the last line of the previous as a prompt...the subject matter of the next poem is unrelated to the previous...for example the next cinq could be about being turned down for a date, or a job or a mortgage or turning down the bed...whatever you'd like.

the next person will use the last line from that last posted cinq/ topic and so on and so on. It's really fun. We had over 30 pages of these at PenShells.

Have fun!

Sue et al - I'm not sure whether we're supposed to post each poem separately. I suppose that that's the only way we'll know who wrote what, but it could get cumbersome what with comments. Or are we not to comment?
I've chosen to copy your poem as the poem that preceeds mine so that the reader will know what I'm spinning off of. I suspect this isn't the way this is supposed to work. Please enlighten me.

What a good idea, Sue.
Alice

tossing daylight out on her ear
turn down
Sue

turn down
the lights, sit still
poised between day and night
I wish the sun a safe journey
quiet

In rereading your post, Sue, I realize we are supposed to use the new topic and post our poem and only our poem. That's great because we can have individual titles rather than trying to find some thread that jives the the title set in the first cinq. Also, we can comment on individual poems.

Or maybe I'm completely wrong about this! What do others think? The way it is now, we might have a very long poem at some point! Even be up against a space limit on the board...

Just thinking.

Smiles,
Wilt

PS Loving the cinquain train so far!

Wilt, Alice, Sue --- I admit I glossed over the "new post" comment in Sue's original posting -- pointed out now by Wilt -- and while I agree the train will grow cumbersome the way we currently are posting, I enjoy reading the flow - a bit like walking along a train, car to car, checking out the travelers, new views.

However, there's something to be said for creating a train with each cinq creating a new car - visually via new postings. The problem comes when or if anyone wants to comment on somebody's cinq, an action that will through the train into disarray....

Combustion

Postby sonoranpoet » Wed Oct 19, 2011 2:45 pm

a flame
burns with result
until attention peaks
sometimes roars like a lioness
or chokes

This last line is a good example where the start of the next cinq can be altered....

you don't have to use 'or'

choking
choker
I choke
they choke
it choked

That's weird, but my post is missing... Sue, you must have seen it, since you started with a flame... what on earth do you suppose happened?

anyway, here is my cinq from yesterday that fits after Hawkseyes and before Sue's from today

shadow
the dim finger
of night paints the sky black…
inside, we make love—set darkness
aflame
